Game & Learn with GameSome
We are a new Finnish additional education initiative.
We design Games for Learning and host Game&Learn Clubs where children and youth can play and learn free of charge.
“The biggest problem is often that marginalized groups are not actively included in extracurricular activities. So the social side of your initiative sounds excellent.”
— Venla Bernelius
Docent in urban Geography at the University of Helsinki, specialising in research on urban segregation, neighbourhood development and social and spatial educational dynamics.
An After-School Club for Gaming and Learning
GameSome develops Learning Games and hosts after school Game&Learn clubs that allow youngsters to engage with topics like Mathematics and Physics, and where they learn more about language, spoken and written text, all in the context of play and collaboration.
In Game&Learn Clubs youngsters work together to create stories, solve puzzles and develop characters. The engaging gaming environment allows for more concentration and focus on topics that might otherwise feel difficult.
Our Gaming Hosts are University students who have understanding of the topic, of the gaming environment and also experience in working with young people. We at GameSome hope to create with the Game&Learn after school clubs an inspiring alternative learning environment that can help youngsters in school and other aspects of their lives
The joy of learning belongs to everyone
GameSome’s main goal is to enable more people to get the best education possible. This is why we develop games for everyone: for those who maybe find it difficult to concentrate on certain school topics, but also for those who want to improve their skills, and look for new challenges.
We also believe that to be genuinely inclusive we will need to make an elemental part of our services free of charge. We get in contact with institutions, organisations and individuals to help us to do so.
The games we play should be fun and interactive. Challenging in an inspiring way. And most of all, the Game&Learn Clubs should be an environment that people can feel free and safe in.
Welcome to the GameSome Community
We think that education is something that affects us all. This is why we hope to learn from teachers, specialists, youngsters and others who would like to share their experience and knowledge with us.
GameSome reaches out to a community of people who think that this initiative can be a worthwhile addition to our learning society, and who would like to help this initiative to become successful.
We hope that the GameSome Community can bring together a group of people and organisations who share the idea of the importance of finding additional ways to bring the best possible basic education to a bigger, more diverse group of people.

Game-Based Learning
Game-Based Learning
Game-based learning (GBL) allows students to engage with educational materials in a playful and dynamic way. GBL creates a wider learning experience, increases student motivation and enables a context for situated learning. GBL can as well address special education needs, and it can provide a positive and inspiring alternative learning environment for all.
GameSome develops games for learning that are both intrinsically and extrinsically rewarding. Game-like aspects are adjusted to fit the lesson content and lesson content is adjusted to fit inside of the game dynamics.
In Game&Learn clubs players work together and solve puzzles. Players write stories and play roles in stories, with story development based on their choices and actions. Players solve puzzles collectively, with the help of in-game provided hints, nudges and learnings.
The games that we at GameSome develop are based on tabletop Role Playing games (RPG). The tabletop RPG structure encourages players to work with stats and calculate experience point totals, probability and so forth. Players will develop their in-game character and skills and meet non player in-game characters (NPC’s) who both challenge them and help them on their gaming journey.
GameSome values the social aspect of playing games and learning. In the Game&Learn Clubs, pupils will explore the gaming world together and game aspects will inspire different ways of collaboration and interaction.
Gaming is fun and engaging. Youngsters bring their experience and understanding of games to the table, and we at GameSome will try to learn as much from their input as youngsters will learn from taking part in Game&Learn Clubs.
